A Rare Look at Modern Masters

Art lovers staying at The Houstonian have a spectacular cultural experience just minutes away. At The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Picasso-Klee-Matisse: Masterpieces from the Museum Berggruen brings more than 95 paintings, watercolors, drawings, and sculptures from Berlin’s Museum Berggruen to Houston for its U.S. debut. The exhibition is on view through September 13, 2026, in the Beck Building.

Art Through a Collector’s Eye

The exhibition tells the story of Heinz Berggruen, the celebrated gallerist and collector who built his remarkable collection from the 1940s through the 1990s. Highlights include works by Pablo Picasso and Paul Klee, Henri Matisse’s iconic cut-outs, Alberto Giacometti’s sculptures, and works by Georges Braque and Paul Cézanne. Organized around themes such as still life, portraits, figures, and landscapes, the exhibition offers an intimate perspective on some of the 20th century’s most influential artists.

The exhibition is located on Level 1 of the Beck Building. From The Houstonian, the MFAH is approximately 5–6 miles away, or about a 10–15 minute drive in typical traffic, making it an easy addition to a Houston stay. Allow extra time during peak traffic, particularly around Museum District.

The Art of Play: Colors & Shapes

Bringing the family? A playful interactive space awaits at the end of the exhibition. Children can experiment with magnets and blocks, create digital drawings inspired by Klee, and make colorful cut-out shapes influenced by Matisse, turning a museum visit into a hands-on creative adventure.
