If you want to end your summer on a high note, it’s not too late to plan a "staycation” at the Houstonian Hotel in Houston. The Houstonian is situated on 18 acres of wooded property that will make you forget that you are in the middle of the fourth largest city in the US. The location is not only beautiful, but conveniently located next to great shopping, restaurants and fun activities.

Little ones will have a great time at one of the Hotel’s three pools or at the Kid’s Gym which offers arts and crafts, games, toys and an indoor three level indoor climbing structure. There is also an outdoor play structure and a walking/jogging path great for exploring the whole property. Kids will also love the "Kids Camp Out” package at the Houstonian. Kid-sized tents are set up complete with flashlights, sleeping bags, stuffed animals and s’mores.

If you are looking for an adult’s only getaway, the Houstonian is perfect for that, as well. Take advantage of the state of the art workout facility, fitness classes or indoor and outdoor tennis courts. During my visit, I used the workout facilities and indoor tennis courts. Everything was in fantastic condition and if I needed something or had a question, all I had to do was ask – the staff at the Houstonian was very helpful during my stay.  You can also plan a relaxing couples massage at Trellis Spa which offers not only a couples room, but a couples shower and tub, as well. Surrounded by so many trees, soaking in the pool or hot tub was also easy to just relax and enjoy.

Although the Houstonian is conveniently located next to some of the best restaurants Houston has to offer, you don’t have to leave the property to enjoy a fantastic meal. Olivette is located directly off of the beautiful hotel lobby and is perfect for any meal or just to pop in for dessert. During my stay I had brunch at Olivette and loved not only the food, but the atmosphere and the service. Two of the more popular brunch items are the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict and the Banana Stuffed French Toast – both were fantastic. Dining in the Manor House offers Texas food with a Creole twist. You can also pick up fast casual and healthy meals at The Arbor Grille or Center Court Café.

Even if you don’t dine at the Manor House it is still worth a visit. The house is located on the Houstonian property and is like stepping into a piece of Texas history. The house which was built by John Staub in 1955 has been converted into a restaurant and is now open to the public for the first time in 30 years. Former President George W. Bush and Former First Lady Barbara Bush lived on the property from 1981-1992, first at the Manor House and then in Room 271 in the Houstonian.

The three most popular "staycation” packages are the Lone Star package, Kid’s Camp Out Package and the Girlfriend Package. The Lone Star package includes a Deluxe Guest Room, breakfast for two at Olivette, two cocktails at The Bar and $50 Resort Credit. The GirIfriend Package is all about a weekend of pampering and catching up and included a Deluxe Guest Room, Spa Makeover at Trellis Spa with two treatments and a glass of wine and access to all the classes and activities at the Houstonian Club. Aside from the tent and accessories, the Kids Camp Out Package also includes a Deluxe Guest Room, free kid’s meals from the Campfire Menu and a complimentary movie each day.

It is impossible to describe 18 acres worth of fun, good food, elegance and relaxation, but even a one night’s stay at the Houstonian Hotel will prove that this Houston hotel it has it all.
